The John Dory is a sustainable seafood restaurant located at the Ace Hotel in New York City at 1196 Broadway. It is a large and vibrant space with oversized windows and pops of bright green that contrast with black tile and a mosaic floor. CKS completed all of the custom millwork for this project including the bright green ceiling trusses inspired by the renowned Grand Central Oyster Bar & Restaurant in Midtown. The designer, Roman and Williams, and construction manager, Quest Building Group, wanted to include metal beams as homage to the Grand Central Oyster Bar but were limited by time and budget. To meet this designer's needs, we created large, wooden beams with simulated rivets to resemble metal beams. These were then hand-painted with industrial paint to give it an authentic look. The result? A high-impact statement and the look of metal beams without the cost. The finished space reflects the excitement and boldness of New York City and attracts visitors both near and far.
